Empire Cake

Ohhhhh how I’ve missed this bakery!!!! I already loved their cakes when located in Chelsea, but this location in the West Village is a lot bigger. The selection of cakes has expanded a bit as they have added their mini cakes and it’s all year around. If you’re looking for any last minute candles, cards etc don’t fret they got you covered.

We ordered cupcakes for our wedding, and they were absolutely delicious! I was initially worried we ordered too many cupcakes, but they were nearly all gone by the end of the night. Brooklyn Blackout was my personal favorite! Empire was responsive and friendly while coordinating delivery. I highly recommend Empire for your next event!

My sweetheart is turning 50, and I wanted to surprise him with something special: Muppet cupcakes, featuring his favorite character, Pepe the King Prawn. Empire absolutely delivered! The look on his face when he opened his eyes and saw them was absolute joy and wonderment! He loved them so much that walking home from dinner, he kept stopping strangers to ask, “Want to see something really, really cool?” Then he’d show them the cupcakes and offer them one saying they were too amazing not to share. Huge thanks to Kathleen and the incredibly talented decorators at Empire for making such a special memory possible. Truly unforgettable, made with so much artistry and care, and delicious too! Highly recommend Empire for any occasion worth celebrating. Sincerely appreciate all the love and care that went into making these works of art. All the best! Robert

Apparently posted hours are just a suggestion. Both Google and the sign on the door say they’re open until 10:00 PM on Thursdays. My wife was craving one of their swiss roll cakes, so I walked 30 minutes round trip to get one. I arrived at 9:25 PM. Door locked. Lights on. Two employees inside. One was washing the floors, the other just standing there. Both looked directly at me when I knocked and waved. Neither bothered to come to the door or explain why the store decided to close at least 35 minutes early. If you want to close early, update your hours. If you can’t do that, at least have the basic courtesy to acknowledge the customer whose time you wasted. Decent cakes, but awful service.

Empire Cake: A Sweet Escape in Greenwich Village I stopped into Empire for a peak inside (that is my story and I am sticking with it) and ended up with a chocolate chip cookie and a latte, and both hit exactly the right notes without any fuss. The cookie was well executed: crisp edges, soft center, generous chocolate distribution. The latte was smooth and well-balanced. Classic comfort executed well…sometimes “done right” is all you need. What really charmed me was the atmosphere. This place feels like a 1950s malt shop collided with a kid’s sugar-fueled fever dream—colorful, nostalgic, and genuinely welcoming. The staff was warm and attentive, and the prices were refreshingly reasonable for what you’re getting. If you’re in the Village and need a quick coffee and something sweet, Empire Cake delivers simple pleasures, done well.
